Squeaking shoes and cheering crowds filled Del Val’s Hutch Gym as The Harlem Wizards played against the Holland Township School Staff. The March 29 event began with a meet and greet with The Wizards at 1 p.m. before the game began at 2.
The Harlem Wizards are known for their trick shots and crowd entertainment. They were brought in by the Holland Township School PTO as part of a fundraiser organized for the school.
Nicole Bartruff, a Del Val freshman, had the opportunity to attend the game and see the Wizards.
“The Wizards were always interacting with the crowd,” Bartruff said. “They were consistent with making people laugh and moving around. I didn’t even look at my phone once because I was so in the moment of a fun experience.”
Throughout the event, there were also challenges and games that allowed children attending to participate and win free merch.
“Over the summer I saw the Savannah Bananas, which is the crazy national team for baseball,” Bartruff said. “This basketball game was essentially just like that, and I would definitely pay or go back in time just so I could get that comic relief.”
Community members came together to have a laugh as they watched the comedic basketball team all while raising funds for the school.
“I would most certainly go back in time and attend this basketball game,” Bartruff said. “It was a ton of fun and was super cool to meet crazy national basketball players.”
Once game ended, attendees left the gym with unforgettable memories.
“I just want to give my appreciation to the Holland PTO for making this fun, exciting and entertaining experience happen for this amazing community,” Bartruff said.
