The new girls soccer captains, Regina Totten and Kasey Simon, help lead the girls soccer team through motivation and strong connections on and off the field.
Although being a captain comes with fun experiences like motivating your teammates, it also comes with challenges.
“Before games, because I get really stressed before games,” Simon said. “It is also very stressful when you’re trying to get the team organized and no one is listening,” Simon said.
Another challenge the captains face is balancing their school work with their responsibilities in soccer.
“I think it’s pretty similar to playing any other sport and balancing school work,” Totten said. “I think it’s just a little bit more pressure, but I think it’s very doable.”
While moderating all this work can be a pretty big struggle, there must be people they can look up to on their rough days.
“Usually we talk to each other, captain wise, and if it’s above us our coach,” Simon said. “I’d say the girls on our team are pretty close, so it’s not that hard to talk to each other.”
Despite all of the hard work and responsibilities of being a captain, it comes with strong bonds and leadership too.
