A variety of trends from the ‘80s and ‘90s have been making a return. From zigzag headbands, crop tops and manhunt, all of these have returned, but one trend has recently taken over all high schools: Hacky Sack.
In response to many spontaneous games of Hacky Sack being played all throughout the school, Del Val’s physical education department has decided to host a Hacky Sack tournament.
This tournament will occur during unit lunch Tuesday, May 12, for the semifinals, and Thursday, May 14, for the final at 11 a.m. According to physical education teacher, Marty White, judges will decide which teams will move to the finals based on Hack Count, spectator applause and skills and tricks.
The Hacky Sack game consists of a group of four players in a circle trying to keep a small beanbag off the ground. No hands or arms may be used to keep the sack in the air, only feet, knees, chest, head and shoulders are allowed. The objective is to keep the sack in the air as long as possible, while passing it to others in the circle. If the sack falls or touches the ground it is considered a “drop”, and the “hack” ends.
Students have until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, to sign up. Teams are required to bring their own Hacky Sack.
