As the school year starts up, Resource Rooms have been introduced to give students more opportunities to improve their skills. Since Sept. 8, two math and English teachers have opened their rooms during Unit Lunch to provide extra assistance to students.

“So, the premise of the Resource Rooms is that they are opportunities for students to go get help during lunch when their teacher might not necessarily be available or just like, ‘hey, my teacher tried explaining this to me, but there’s another person,’” Tara Civitillo, Director of Curriculum, said.

Every day, there are two types of rooms available: math and writing and testing.

“…the idea is that for the math, it’s just math support. So, you come in and whether that’s for chemistry or physics or what have you,” Civitillo said.

Civitillo also explains how the writing and testing rooms function.

“It’s more of a writing workshop so you can go there for writing for any of your subjects,” Civitillo said. “But the english is also going to double as a location where you take assessments. So if you have a quiz or a test that you need to make up and your teacher wasn’t available, they can send it down.”

To maximize the opportunities students have to strengthen their skills, the Resource Rooms will still be in session if the teacher for the room is absent that day.

“…if the teacher’s absent, we’re still going to use their room. So, another teacher will fill in for them, but it’ll be in that same location…,” Civitillo said.
