As a part of the annual Milford Alive! celebration, Del Val’s wrestling team is sponsoring a bed and competing in the Bed Race. The wrestling team’s bed is themed to promote the team and garner engagement for their upcoming season.
Following last year’s historic wrestling season, Head Wrestling Coach, Andrew Fitz intends to celebrate their victory during the race.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to win state,” Fitz said. “I’ll probably have the trophy there, it won’t be on the bed during the race, but we’ll walk the parade holding the trophy. It will be a decoration towards our program.”
The Bed Race team includes three pushers and one person on the bed.
“It is a straight sprint,” Wrestling Coach C.J. Inglin said. “You don’t train for it. You just have to be willing to pull a hammy [hamstring] in order to win it.”
The team is returning to defend their title of fastest bed, which they’ve held for the last three years the competition has run.
“We don’t go out there to get second place, so I’m hoping that the bed continues to win,” Inglin said.
The Bed Race, which is sponsored by the Milford Merchants Association, will take place around 2 p.m and conclude between 2:45 and 3 p.m., and will be followed by live music.

“We have fun with it more than anything,” Fitz said. “It helps out the community [and] it’s good promotion for the program. It’s something we look forward to every year. I’m glad it’s back.”
