Recently, The Delphi sat down with Del Val Volleyball coach, Ms. Fleming, about the team’s sectional tournament win and being named New Jersey State Sectional Champs: Group 1 South.

Fleming said, “[There were] no captains this season, but we had 6 returning seniors: Abigail Giordano, Victoria Panicaro, Mackenzie Kapples, Kerry Walsh, Cristina Calcavecchio, and Kayla MacKinnon.” However, the season was far from easy. Abigail Giordano was injured the whole season and Mackenzie Kapples had an ankle injury for the playoffs. “With both my senior middles out with ankle injuries, sophomore Madison Cobb and Junior Zoe Blomgren stepped in,” Fleming said.

Even though the team wasn’t able to compete in the conference, they were able to compete in sectionals and recorded a record of 10-3. Speaking to Sectionals, “Key players in that particular game include the flawless defense by junior Libero Abigail Hayth, 6 kills by junior Emily Kraynanski, and 17 assists by senior setter Kerry Walsh,” Fleming said.

During sectionals, Del Val beat A.L Johnson, Collingswood, and Highland Park.

Fleming expressed how proud she is of the girls and how much she loves this team. Even though they weren’t able to compete in the conference this year, they brought home this amazing title!
