Key Club, Buddies and the Leadership Summit have joined together to host Del Val’s first school-wide Cereal Drive fundraiser.
In this drive, students and staff are encouraged to bring unopened cereal boxes to school and leave them in drop-off bins located in E-Hall, B-Hall and in front of the main office. The donations will then be given to local food pantries.
Key Club adviser Marirose Albanese believes that food drives like the cereal drive are an important service to the many communities surrounding Del Val.
“In our community we have families who struggle to put food on the table,” Albanese said. “Most people feel that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We thought that cereal is a shelf stable product that would be a good item.”
Donations will be accepted through April 29. On April 30, a celebration of the donations will take place during Unit Lunch at 11 a.m. in the Hutch. The boxes will be lined up and members of Buddies will tip them over to create a domino effect, inspired by the viral Cereal Domino Challenge. Unified adviser Dana Stem is excited for this finale.
“Hopefully we will have a lot so that we can go in a big circle or something, and then we are going to donate them to I believe three food pantries in the area.”
