Milford Alive! was canceled as a result of the nor’easter’s powerful winds and heavy rainfall ripping through the Northeast coast and trickling further into rural New Jersey.
The Milford Merchants Association, which helps to run Milford Alive!, posted on Facebook about the risks that continuing the event would bring to the community and vendors
“JCP&L anticipates downed wires and trees,” the association wrote. “We have experienced power outages on lesser storms than what is predicted for this storm. Our first concern is always the safety of all, and we don’t want anyone to have to travel in what could be dangerous conditions.”
Junior Naomi Cantilina expressed her disappointment about missing out on what she had been looking forward to most at the festival.
“Food. They usually bring pretty good food,” Cantilina said. “Oh, and they have good people come and play music, and the fireworks. I miss the fireworks.”
Del Val’s Art Club had also planned to host a table on Bridge Street that day, but the group was unable to participate because of the weather earlier in the day and a scheduling conflict with the homecoming dance later that day.
“It was on the same day as Homecoming,” Art Club co-president Kairi Lambert said. “Even though it [Milford Alive!] got canceled, people just have a busy schedule.”

Despite the setback to the Bridge Street activities, the Milford Fire Company continued with its annual Pig Roast and Clam Bake from noon to 8 p.m. to celebrate the company’s 115th anniversary. The event offered pulled pork and clams, as well as a 50/50 raffle and other activities.
The Milford Bed Race and fireworks have been rescheduled for the Milford Fall Festival on Oct. 25.
Wrestling Head Coach Andy Fitz will know if the Del Val’s wrestling team is participating on the new date on Wednesday Oct. 7 following a meeting with the parent’s association.
