Del Val’s students are growing excited for both the Homecoming football game and the Oct. 11 Enchanted Garden-themed dance.
There is a different spirit week theme for each day leading up to the weekend’s Homecoming festivities. The dance will be the day after Del Val’s traditional Pink Out football game on Oct. 10, where the Terriers will play A.L. Johnson. For those without pink clothing, the Key Club’s pink shirt sale is going on this week during unit lunch to help students show school spirit during the game.
The 2025 Homecoming king and queen will be announced prior to the game.
The king nominees are Alex Apgar, Vincent Casagrande, Tye Falkenstein, Marcus, Gaspari and Lucas Schulze. The queen nominees are Kylie Croasdale, Isabella Diaz, Farrah Roberson, Lilly Rynearson and Margaret Simpson.
Ally Moschberger, Student Council president, has been working hard to make this year’s dance theme fun for all students. She is eager to see her work pay off and turn out beautifully throughout the school.
“I’m mostly excited to just see everything done and everyone there,” Moschberger said. “I know the Student Council has put in tons of work setting it up and I know it will look really good.”
The dance will be held at Del Val from 7 to 10 p.m. Music and dancing will be held in the Gold Gym, while dessert and garden-themed games will be held in the cafeteria.
This year, there will be no dinner, but a diverse dessert bar will include Maria Rosa cannolis and tiramisu, Kona Ice, and mochi cream donuts by Mochi Queen in Clinton. ShopRite will also provide cakes, cookies, brownies and cupcakes.
In addition, there will also be a freestyle soda station, with numerous sodas, syrups and flavorings to choose from.
Michael Fortino, one of Student Council’s advisors, is looking forward to serving the desserts, which he says were widely requested after last year’s Homecoming.
“Over 75% of students surveyed said they would rather have more dessert and less dinner because they already ate before Homecoming,” Fortino said. “We also have less of a budget then we do for bigger events, so we get so much more for less when catering dessert instead of dinner.”
The garden games will be fun, carnival-inspired games where attendees can win prizes like gift cards, garden accessories and more.
.
“I’m most excited for the aspects of the games at Homecoming,” Fortino said. “While dances are really fun, the chances of winning prizes and contributing to the community is where many students thrive and make memories that last forever.”
Many students have expressed their excitement for Homecoming’s desserts, dancing, games and overall celebration of school spirit.
“I’m really looking forward to making memories with my friends, taking pictures with the fun garden theme, dancing and eating the dessert,” sophomore Finley Swanson said.
