After five years of working at Del Val, E101 teacher William Lowe is set to retire at the end of the school year. Lowe spent his years at Del Val aiming to inspire students and encourage them to learn new things even when it seemed hard.
“Never stop learning because I learn something new every day,” Lowe said.
Lowe was originally a social worker and loved the energy and kids, since his wife was a teacher he decided he wanted to switch to teaching.
Lowe grew up in Flemington, New Jersey and has always loved the surrounding area, so when he wanted to start teaching, he knew he wanted to teach nearby.
“Del Val is more friendly than not and I feel comfortable here. It’s very welcoming,” Lowe said.

During his time at Del Val, Lowe formerly worked as a member of the Del Val security team to ensure safety on campus, but he later switched to teaching for more interactions with students.
Although teaching is rewarding, it also comes with many challenges. Lowe has expressed technology as a personal challenge, however, Lowe persevered for his students showing courage and strength for his students.
“Every day is different, so it’s always the little things that make a difference,” Lowe said.
Lowe expressed that one of his favorite parts of teaching is helping students to ensure they are successful in the future.
“Sometimes I see students a few years after I taught them and they say something we have worked on has helped them,” Lowe said.
Lowe is sad to be leaving teaching but is excited to enjoy his retirement where he will be practicing karate and other activities that he does not have time to do while teaching.
“I may open up a karate studio and I might do that to pass on my passions to others,” Lowe said.
Lowe has been an inspiration and has left a lasting impact on Del Val. Even after retirement Lowe will continue to teach those around him valuable life lessons.
“Never underestimate the impact you can have on someone, and never underestimate the impact they can have on you,” Lowe said.
