Stacy Grady and Del Val’s Science National Honor Society hosted the fourth annual Science Showcase for first-through eighth-graders from the Delaware Valley sending districts Feb. 28 in the Commons.
Students presented hypotheses and results ranging from potato circuits to robotic hands. Grady explained how the showcase encourages families and students to get interested in science and Del Val.
“It gets people in the building, and it gets people to see all of the cool stuff that goes on here, because Del Val’s like a little hidden gem out here in the cornfield,” Grady said.
To help Grady organize the large-scale event, Del Val’s chapter of SNHS contributed their time to set up and run the day. Meredith Levy spent the day organizing the event and counting the ballots; however, she couldn’t help but get distracted by the participants’ incredible projects.
“[I liked] getting to walk around and ask the kids questions and seeing their interest in science,” Levy said.

Participants brought impressive experiments, including a robotic hand. Eighth-grader Kourtney Nolan, from Alexandria Township School, made a robotic hand connected to a circuit-equipped glove. Nolan was nervous but excited to present her invention.
“I was really nervous because I’ve never actually presented any of my trinkets I’ve made before,” Nolan said. “But I was really excited because I was working with everything.”
From skincare moisturization labs to elephant toothpaste experiments, young students explored their scientific side. Nolan hopes other students continue to explore that interest and participate in this event.
“Just start learning and just keep trying,” Nolan said.
