In Executive Order 14434, inaugurating The Era Of Super Intelligence, President Donald J. Trump directed federal departments and agencies to refer to what was formally known as Artificial Intelligence (AI) as “Super Intelligence” and “SI”.
The order, signed and released by the White House on Sep. 29, 2026, states that the Federal Government should accurately describe the opportunities technologies, such as Super Intelligence, hold and provide for the American people.
“Artificial Intelligence sort of has a negative effect with people right now because they feel like it could be doing things that are not what we want it to do,” Del Val business teacher, Joseph Perricone, said. “Why? Because it’s artificial…So instead of it being something that is scary, it is now more powerful and super.”
A separate fact sheet on the order states: “The same Super Intelligence conveys the true capabilities of the technologies being developed today, unlocking new forms of human creativity and empowering Americans to achieve what was previously impossible – not simply imitating or automating human intelligence as is implied by the term ‘Artificial Intelligence.'”
“I think we’re just trying to put a spin on it so it’s not so dark and evil, and we want to focus on the good stuff on AI,” Perricone said.
All federal departments and agencies are now directed to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official communications and documents. However, previously issued regulations, contracts or documents do not have to be changed.
Despite being exempted from making this change, Elon Musk said he would rename SpaceXAI to “SpaceXSI”.
Although Musk’s website and social media accounts have not yet been updated, in a recent post, he said “SpaceX is a super intelligence company.”
“A lot of them [tech companies in their private marketing], I think, it’s almost like it’s already branded as far as AI, and I think it’s gonna take a little bit of persuasion for it to be accepted as SI,” Perricone said. “All articles that I read currently still have it as AI. The only time you see it talked about as SI is when you watch the news and it’s the Trump people that are, you know, they’re using both now — but they’re laughing about it, that now it’s called SI, but then they refer to AI.”
The switch from AI to SI is intended to make people think of the intelligence as powerful rather than “fake.”
“I always relate it to artificial sweeteners versus something that’s not artificial,” Perricone said. “I try not to have anything that’s artificial, so in my mind, not this particular thing, but I do understand the relevance of switching from AI to SI.”
People will need to get acclimated to the new name, but only time will tell whether the rebrand will be successful.
