Del Val had a conjoined honors society induction night, including students from Tri-M Music Honors Society, National Business Honors Society, Quill and Scroll Honors Society and Science National Honors Society. Held on Oct. 13, this was the first time Del Val held inductions for multiple honors societies on one night.
“This was the biggest [induction] we’ve had,” Science National Honors Society Advisor, Stacy Grady, said. “There were four honors societies inducting tonight. It started with two, then three, and now it’s up to four.”
Almost a total of 60 new members were inducted into the four societies.
“Each of the honors societies that inducted had their own process for induction handled by the respective advisors,” Grady said.
The ceremony began with the Tri-M Music Honors Society, who inducted seven new members. The society recognizes student musicians, and choose new members based on the values of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.
The ceremony then went on to recognize the four new members of the National Business Honors Society for students who teach, lead, research, and champion in business education.
In the next induction, the Science National Honors Society welcomed 14 new members. To conclude ceremony, inductees turned on flashlights in place of candles to represent the light of their knowledge.
The last ceremony of the night, also the largest induction with 34 new members, was the Quill and Scroll Honors Society. The honors society inducted students who made significant work in some area of journalism such as newspaper, TV media or yearbook.
“What made tonight special was that there were so many people who really cared about what they do,” Tri-M Secretary and Science National Honors Society inductee, Maya Sliver, said. “It’s really nice to see how everybody was being recognized for their efforts and have a supportive audience.”
Next year, Del Val will be introducing a new honors society: Educators Rising, which provides a new pathway for students who plan to get a degree in teaching.
“It just goes to show that our Del Val kids, here you can be involved in all of the things, and be really good at all of the things because you have those opportunities,” Grady said. “I love this, this [induction] is one of my most favorite nights.”
