Del Val kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with Back-to-School Night on Sept. 5, 2024 at 6:30 p.m.
The event allowed parents and guardians to follow their children’s C-day schedule. Adults met with their children’s teachers and learned about the classes they are taking this year.
As parents entered Del Val, they were welcomed by staff members and directed to the cafeteria for light refreshments.
BTSN started with a brief meeting in the auditorium where principal Michael Kays and superintendent Scott McKinney spoke about Del Val’s new school app, site and Strategic Plan. Afterward, the parents were sent off to experience a day in the life of their children.
Teachers spent eight minutes with parents, giving them a brief insight into their plans for the year.
Many clubs, such as All Sports Booster Club and Peer Leaders, attended BTSN. Student participants in All Sports Booster Club sold Del Val merchandise in the cafeteria. Peer Leaders helped direct parents and guardians around the school.
Student participant Norbert Hirst voiced his content for BTSN.
“It was a great experience helping out the boosters and seeing all the parents passionate about the school,” Hirst said. “Lots of parents were coming up and buying merch. The school spirit was really awesome.”
Math and Computer Science supervisor Ryan Murphy expressed gratitude for the Peer Leaders’ help during the event.
“The Peer Leaders really excelled,” Murphy said. “They have got a lot of training in becoming leaders and that shows. The parents, teachers and everyone involved were all better off because of them.”
BTSN was a success for both parents and teachers and many were seen exiting the school with smiles on their faces.
“Seeing a lot of parents that I have seen before…it’s nice that we are all in the same building and we can talk and catch up during the downtime,” Murphy said. “I think it’s nice that we have a good sense of community and small enough community where we can kinda recognize each other and have those conversations and relationships.”
