New rules, new changes and no explanations; this was something that many Del Val students experienced when they heard about the new dress code policy, bus departure times and lack of paper towels in restrooms. That is, until the Delphi Detectives came to Del Val.
“We were just putting out ideas, and we wanted something like detectives and journalism, and we were like, ‘the Delphi Detectives,’” host Julia Hirsch said.
Juniors Emma Haig, Margot Husson and Hirsch, like many Del Val students, disagreed with the changes and had questions that weren’t being answered. Inspired by these concerns, they began seeking answers and started to give them to students through investigative journalism.
“We’re filling a need for Del Val,” Haig said. “We’re investigating important stuff.”
The Delphi Detectives started posting TikTok videos on Nov. 26, 2025, with their first case focusing on Del Val’s new dress code. This video quickly gained attention from students and staff. Psychology and sociology teacher Susan Spolarich enjoys watching their TikToks and is excited to see what comes next.
“I think they are very creative,” Spolarich said. “A good idea that the girls had to start and just a good way to have student voice shown in a different and very unique way.”
Besides covering Del Val’s controversial changes, they created a segment called “Wig Snatching” where students go against staff to see who can steal a wig off each other’s head first.
“We like to keep the students engaged,” Husson said.
The Delphi Detectives are excited to see the impact that their videos will have on Del Val and look forward to making new videos.
“In regards to the Delphi Detectives in the future, we want to see change,” Hirsch said. “If we propose an issue that we think the student body has, we want it to actually lead to something. We want the administration to pay attention to us. Not just some funny little TikTok. It also has a meaning to it.”
